Our Hawaiian Heroes Project was the biggest project we had last/this quarter. To put it shortly, we each had to pick one person in history who made an impact on Hawaii. We then had to do lots of research on this person. We drew them, and took notes on them to figure out why they were important. We then had to not only research our person, but find out strengths and weaknesses of another persons hero in order to debate them. After debating who made more of an impact and was a better Hawaiian hero, it was the end of the quarter. When we got back this quarter, and figured out who won the debates we had to make trailers for the Heroes that won the debates.
I won the debate, therefore I was a leader/director for my heroes trailer. I had Ashlyn and Ava in my group as well. In our class there were four people who's trailers were being voted on, including mine. There is still more to this project as we will have two winning heroes. I chose to put this in my portfolio because it was such a big project that there was no reason not to. We spent a lot of time on it, and it is still going. In all honesty I don't think I can pick just one 21st century skill that this represents. It represents all of them except for the Business and Civic Literacy ones. The project was so big that there were parts where we worked in a group, and on our own, where we had to find out information for ourselves and be our own leader. This project helped me become better at some things I actually enjoy doing. I like to debate, so that was really fun for me, and I won. I like to edit and am interested in film production so that was also nice to do. Not only did it help me improve some skills, but it also made me realize that even if I have a plan in my head, things don't go the way I may have expected them to. I think it all turned out well in the end, even if it wasn't exactly what I expected, especially the trailer. |
