Subject: Junior Seminar
Facilitator/Teacher: Ms Cassie
This project was basically just to update our class about our Junior Project. For my Junior Project, I’m working with Ashlyn and we are making a documentary-type video educating our peers on what’s currently going on with climate change on our island, and what we as youth can do to help. We have interviews set up for this project starting next week, and we are asking people who work in non-profit organizations what their organization does to help with the effects of climate change, and what they think youth can do to help with it.
The 21st Century Skill I believe best represents this assignment is Self-Directional skill. Ashlyn and I had to have enough progress in our Junior Project for our progress presentation in order to prove we had a rigorous and challenging project, which we do. While we have had help with this project, we have had to reach out to many people on our own and make sure we are staying on schedule, as well as follow through with the things we have planned. It’s up to us to get this entire Junior Project done on time, and so far I think we have done a good job. I’ve definitely grown in my self directional skills and I feel more responsible than I did before starting this project.
So far, I am most proud of how well Ashlyn and I have worked together. I feel like we’ve both put in a lot of effort already and it’s only going to grow now that we are about to start actually filming. If I could do this update presentation again though, I would have added more progress to show, and practice the presentation a little more beforehand. The actual final presentation is not here yet, so at least this gives me more time to prepare for that. The most difficult part was also having enough progress to show, because we hadn’t gotten to filming at the time, but again we still have time for that. This project does remind me of the project I did in 9th grade, my letter to earth video, and I’m glad we are doing another project that we can make into a film because I want to get into the film industry when I am older so this is giving me lots of practice.
