Subject: Humanities
Facilitator/Teacher: Ms Terry In this project, we were put into groups of 4-5 and we all chose a different empire to research. I chose the Ottoman empire. We all read an article about our specific empire and then taught each other about the empire we read about. After over viewing each empire, we discussed the strengths and weaknesses of each in order to decide what we may want in our own Frankenstein Empire. We created a google slides presentation about our empire and had to make sure to include how our empire is similar to the empires we researched. The 21st Century Skill I believe this assignment addresses is Global Awareness. We had to really consider what each of the empires did well and what they didn’t. They are all of different cultures and places as well, and a lot of them interacted with other places/empires through trade and traveling. It took a lot of time researching the empires in order to start the slides presentation, and I actually found it really interesting to see how different all of the empires are. There are other 21st Century Skills that could go with this assignment as well, including Communication and Interpersonal skills, but I felt that Global awareness fits it best. I’m most proud of the research my group did. I’m glad everyone stayed on task for that part, and we all knew our empires pretty well by the time we planned to start working on our own empire. The most difficult part of the project was definitely trying to work efficiently with my group members and use our time wisely when creating the actual presentation. We could have made our presentation look more professional and neat, so if I could do something differently, it would be that. But the project worked out well in the end and the presentations were good, so overall I’m pretty proud of this assignment. |
