The shark tank project was done in Spanish 1. The idea was to create a new restaurant/food truck that included different foods and beverages from a Spanish speaking country. My group did a food truck, and we focused on Cuban foods/drinks. We had to present to the class, “the sharks”, and try to convince them why our truck was good enough to invest in. We had to work on most of the project at home up until the presentation, and my job was to to talk about the desserts and beverages our food truck would sell.
One 21st century skill that can be incorporated with this project is Financial, Economic, and Business literacy. While this project didn't deal with money, it still involved some other aspects of owning a business, like where our location would be, what foods would be logical to sell in a food truck, and we had to try to be as original as possible. I learned a lot through the questions some of the students asked the group. I also realized how difficult it would be to actually start a business. What I am most proud of from this project is the way our poster turned out. Everyone was pretty impressed by it, and so was I. We didn’t get a lot of time with this project, so if I did it again I would probably want more time to work on it in class so that my whole group could work on it together, as well as practice the presentation. I’d also just prepare myself better for the presentation next time, and try to communicate with my team more so I could keep track of what needed to be done and what had already been done. I remember in sixth grade I did a project similar to this in my speech and debate class. We had to make a new invention and create a sales pitch to convince the rest of the class. I think this project definitely made me more aware of certain aspects of owning a business and what that entails. |
